John Scott Whiteley, recently retired organist of York Minster, York, U.K., will perform in All Saints’ Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is part of the Kenneth H. and Frances S. Kerr Organ Recital Series, the University’s 2010–11 Performing Arts Series and the celebration of John M. McCardell’s installation as 16th vice-chancellor and president of the University. Whiteley is widely known for his performances on BBC television’s “21st-Century Bach” series, the organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach. He has performed extensively as a solo recitalist in the UK and abroad and performs at organ and Bach festivals throughout Europe. He has recorded more than two dozen CDs, including several award winners. Whiteley also has written books and articles about the music of Bach and Belgian composer Joseph Jongen, has composed organ music and has taught at the University of Hull and the Royal Northern College of Music. The Performing Arts Series brings a wide array of the world’s finest artists to Sewanee. General admission tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students.
