The Head of the Hooch is a 5000m (3 mile) head race on the Tennessee River ending at Ross's Landing Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee . All boats are started sequentially and will race against the clock.

The Head of the Hooch is a US Rowing registered regatta. All participating organizations/schools/clubs must be members of the US Rowing Association. Single scullers need not be individual members of USRowing.

The venue is located about one hour and forty-five minutes north of Atlanta in downtown Chattanooga . In addition, all the conveniences of the city are within walking distance of the venue, including hotels, restaurants, the Tennessee Aquarium, the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Children's Discovery Museum and a variety of restaurants and shops.
