Monteagle Inn & Retreat Center December Newsletter

December 14, 2011

Fall greeting from our beautiful mountain. The air is cool and crisp and we have already had our first snowfall of a couple of inches. What a beautiful time of year.

We are completely decorated for Christmas as is the entire mountain. Sewanee did their usual over the top decorating for their Lessons and Carols program this past weekend. Monteagle does a wonderful job all along Main Street with white lights every year.

The fire is warming hearts in the Living Room and Christmas Carols fill the air. The scent of pine finds you and rejuvenates your memories of joyous Christmas past.

Greeting from our beautiful mountain which is still enjoying colorful fall foliage.

We are just back from our wonderful trip to Italy with new art, fresh food and wine ideas. We visited with some of our old artist friends and met some new ones who we established a relationship and brought home some beautiful watercolors and oils. We were able to visit wineries and meet the owners and sample some outstanding wines which we will feature in our December and January wine events. And the food we sampled from Venice to Tuscany to Rome was extraordinary. Thank goodness we did a lot of walking to prepare us for the next food and wine adventure.

October 14, 2011

Greetings from your friends enjoying a spectacular Fall on the mountain.

Due to our mixture of dry and rainy spells we are blessed with a long developing fall with a kaleidoscope of colors. The weather could not be more perfect with beautiful warm days and cool nights. As the leaves change and fall from their branches, the vistas really open up to showcase the beauty of our mountain for you. We are busy planning several events for the next few months and wanted to give you enough notice to be able to schedule an excuse to escape to the mountain.

Changing of Seasons

September 14, 2011

August was a fun and exciting month for us. Sewanee students returned for another year of fun and learning. Our cool mountain experienced some of the heat which hit most of the South. We were still cooler, just up a notch. We had the opportunity to visit with a number of wonderful guests.

The heat we experienced in August combined with the lack of rain has hastened the fall changing of colors. We hiked the Shakerag Hollow trail yesterday and were surprised at the leaves already starting to change. I expect the majority of the changing of colors to happen in September this year, not in October as usual.

Come relax with us and enjoy the cooler weather and changing of seasons.

Monteagle Inn Opening Cigar Lounge this month!

  • cigar

September 14, 2011

Due to repeated request from our guests, we are opening a Cigar Lounge this month. In reality, we are offering cigars to be enjoyed outside, perhaps with a glass of wine. We will have a dozen or so of very nice cigars for those guests who want to partake in an area that does not offend any other guests. We just got back from Tampa where we met with the Fuente family to get their input into our Cigar Lounge and purchased some cigars only sold at their facility in Tampa, Flor De Ybor City.

Italian Pottery and Art Sale : September 30th - October 2nd

September 14, 2011

We had another Italian Pottery and Art sale and shared some of our treasures with smart buyers. These have proven so popular, we plan to have them more often. The next one is scheduled for September 30th thru October 2nd. Being a dealer for Vietri has really broadened our selections.

Frederick Wildman Wine Tasting - September 24th

September 14, 2011

Our Italian Wine Tasting at Tallulah’s Wine Lounge was a big hit and the Ante Pasta Platter was amazing even by our standards. We will have a wine tasting on Saturday, September 24th featuring the wines from Fredrick Wildman and Sons presented by their Regional Manager. Not only are the wines outstanding, the education will be wonderful also. Make plans to attend as the tasting is limited to 25 guests. Speaking of Tallulah’s, it has become quite a sensation and provided another special time for our guests and the public. Our wine collection is about 300 different wines at very affordable prices. We are closer to retail than restaurant pricing.

Greetings from our beautiful mountain!

April was a very busy and fun month at the Inn. Among a number of fun events, we hosted the Wine & Wildflowers celebration during the Trails & Trilliums Weekend. We had a record turnout of about 200 guests enjoying themselves and introduced a silent auction. The silent auction and the corporate sponsorship of the event by Lodge Manufacturing Company raised over $3,000 for Friends of the South Cumberland.

Greetings from your friends @ Monteagle Inn & Retreat Center, your favorite Bed & Breakfast.

We think that Spring is around the corner; the daffodils are sprouting and more green buds are appearing. We are remaking our herb and vegetable garden borders with bricks and stones recovered from a home being torn down across the street. The original design from 2002 with a wood border is being restored and highlighted. The veggies and herbs are being planted and will be used in our kitchen by month end. Yum, Yum!

We are excited to announce our Wine Lounge is opening April 1st. We will be serving a number of wines by the glass, featuring delicious small plates and appetizers with monthly wine specials. Come check it out and see our expanded wine list. I guarantee you will find some treasures you like.

Monteagle Inn & Retreat Center February Newsletter

February 4, 2011

Greetings from your friends @ Monteagle Inn & Retreat Center, your favorite Bed & Breakfast.

We have had a very busy January implementing numerous upgrades for your comfort and enjoyment. Our newly added curved shower rods, accompanied by waterfall showerheads, give you a better way to enjoy your luxurious showers.

The new floors look fantastic. We went back with a much lighter stain and it really accents the warm wood. The new kitchen has all stainless steel and a new floor. It is more modern and efficient.

To enhance our great room, we added a new 47" LED flat screen TV for your viewing enjoyment as well as keeping the existing Sony 36". And to keep up with technology, we have added iPod/iPhone docking stations for your enjoyment. We upgraded the art throughout most of the inn and put new fresh drapes in several of the rooms.

Come join us in February for great times and experience our upgrades. We are a "better way to stay" on the mountain!

Greetings from your friends at Monteagle Inn & Retreat Center

Greetings from the mountain and lots of snow! The snow is beautiful but there is so much of it. The good news is that our renovation is on schedule.

Our staff and contractors braved well over a foot of snow to get to the Inn and keep it running and work on the renovation. The new floors are going to be beautiful!

We will have lots of new surprises for you on your next visit, both small & large.
