Greetings from your friends at Monteagle Inn & Retreat Center
Wow! What a beautiful fall we are experiencing on the mountain. Warm days and cool nights and the foliage are beginning to turn. We are preparing for one of the prettiest falls in recent memory due to the lack of rain in September and just a touch of moisture in October to get Mother Nature moving. We have scheduled a few events for November and December for you to consider coming to our beautiful mountain: See our website @ www.monteagleinn.com for details.

March 20, 2010

Spring is finally arriving on the mountain, Halleluiah!
We are seeing more buds come out each day and the Lenten Roses are spectacular.
The gardens are going in and we will have a bountiful supply of herbs and veggies for our meals within a month or so. We are already harvesting the daffodils for the inn.

To celebrate Easter on April 4th, we are having a fantastic Easter Buffet with Ham, Lamb, Yams and lots of other delicates. Come join us for only $49.95 per person, including our house wine selection. Check our website at www.monteagleinn.com for details. Reservations are required, so call us at 931-924-3869 to reserve your table. Remember, we only have 15 tables available. Come for the weekend and top it off with a wonderful meal with us.

The hiking trails are cleared and ready for some beautiful sightseeing and wildflower viewing. The trilliums are starting to raise their beautiful heads and will be in full bloom in just a few weeks.

We removed the south balconies from rooms 9 & 10 and are building a deck on that back side overlooking the garden and gazebo. Now those guestrooms will have tables & chairs outside to enjoy the solitude and garden smells. A nice upgrade which enhances the experience of those rooms.

Come home and enjoy a peaceful time on the mountain.

Wine Dinner featuring the Charles Krug Winery

  • krug_dinner

February 26, 2010

We just had a fantastic , the oldest winery in Napa Valley. Mr. Tom Conrad, Executive VP of Krug Winery, flew in for the dinner and entertained all of us with his knowledge of The Peter Mondavi Family and their wine history. The wines were fabulous and the food spectacular. Chef Dee was at her best. A surprising pairing was lump Maryland Crabmeat and California Avocado paired with the 2005 Charles Krug Merlot. The oil in the avocado really brought out the fruit of the Merlot- delicious.

We have had a wonderful Winter Wonderland the last couple of months with more snow than most of us can remember. The fireplace has been blazing and the hot chocolate has been brewing, what a fun time.

It looks like we still have a little Winter left even though we are having a few Spring-like days already.

Wine Dinners at the Inn

January 26, 2010

In February, we are featuring a Valentine’s Eve Dinner with four courses and a selection of wines on Saturday the 13th. You will enjoy some fabulous food and wines plus a chocolate desert you will never forget. Roses on the tables and Frank Sinatra in the background all add to the romantic ambiance for your escape. We are also providing complementary roses in all of the guestrooms for the weekend as an added touch.

Our February Wine Dinner features the wines of Charles Krug, Napa Valley’s oldest winery. The Peter Mondavi family has had the winery for over 60 years and does a superb job with their outstanding estate wines. I visited the winery last August and was hosted by Peter Mondavi himself and obtained a much better appreciation of his wines and their enhancement with foods. The dinner is Friday, the 19th and features six wines and five paired food courses. A previous guest exclaimed that it was the best three hours he spent with his pants on. Quite a compliment indeed!

Speaking of wine, we are having our first annual Monteagle Inn Wine Weekend the first weekend in March. We will begin with a formal wine tasting on Friday, the 5th followed by dinner and wines at HighPoint Restaurant. Saturday, after the “mountain gourmet” breakfast, we will have a wine tasting and then head up to Arrington Vineyards for an in-depth tour with a tasting and catered lunch. We will return to the inn for a Napa Valley Wine Dinner featuring the wines of Kobrand Corp, including Domaine Carneros, Cakebread and Sequoia Grove. Sunday after breakfast and relaxing, we will have a sendoff Champagne Brunch with 5 sparkling wines from around the world….yum, yum. A late checkout is included in the package of course.

Let me know your thoughts for future blogs. Best regards, Jim

Winter has settled in on the Mountain

  • winter_hike

January 26, 2010

Winter has settled in on our beautiful mountain. We have had some of the finest snows I can remember, soft and flaky, perfect for playing in.

Hiking the Cumberland Plateau is especially visual this time of year when the leaves are in hibernation and you can see for miles in the crisp air. The waterfalls are gushing with the rain and snow we have enjoyed and the streams are full, what beauty and power.

Did you realize that we have 23,000 acres of public land around us for walking, hiking, picnicking or just finding the peace that the earth gives you when you provide it the with the opportunity. We truly do have four distinct seasons, each offering its own pleasures and treasures. God’s beauty and peace inhabits each of them.

We keep the fire going for you to enjoy with a book and cup of hot chocolate or cider, maybe even a glass of wine from our collection.

We just received a beautiful custom made wrought iron wine display rack to showcase our six monthly special wines. It is spectacular and worth the six month wait. I will try to get a photograph on the website soon; I know that you will like it.
